Fishing around Abergavenny and the Brecon Beacons

In and Around The Usk

Fishing in and around AbergavennyThe River Usk is one of Wales’s finest game-fishing rivers set amongst the scenic backdrop of the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains. A lively and varied river that is probably Wales’s best Salmon river, with the famous wild brown trout averaging 10oz and sea trout offering a very different challenge on a summers evening.

The Usk is noted as an early river for the native brown trout and in most years, the occasional salmon will have taken up residence by March. The river is a notified Site of Special Scientific interest (SSSI) and is a candidate for the European Special Area of Conservation. In addition to the piscatorial interest, there are other species that will delight visitors to the river, such as otter, kingfisher and sandmartin.
