Abergavenny, and the Black Mountains in particular, offer some of the best pony-trekking trails in the country. There are many excellent riding centres in the area. No matter what you prefer: a gentle trot or a full blown gallop, or something in between, there are not many better ways to take in the beauty of the surrounding countryside.
The Brecon Beacons is a major centre for pony trekking in Wales and is blessed with numerous tracks and bridleways. The Black Mountains, located at the eastern end of Brecon Beacons National Park, are home to many pony trekking centres. Details of a number of these are given below.
The mountains form a formidable natural barrier along English-Welsh border stretching between Abergavenny and Hay-on-Wye. They consist of huge rounded peaty summits and miles of open moorland that are criss-crossed with rights of way and other tracks.
